A Thought on New Year’s Resolutions

It is that time of year again.  The time that we think up resolutions so that we will turn out to be better people by year’s end.  Healthier, Lighter, Smarter, Calmer.  The problem is, many times our resolutions are not kind to us and end up making us feel more stressed than anything else.

What if this year we resolved to be kinder to ourselves.  To accept that we may not get to the gym 5 days a week every week or make dinners for the family every night.  What if we say, “I am doing the best that I can, and that I know, to be my best me.”?

What if holding the door for that person entering the building behind us counted as doing something good for ourselves and others?  How about being satisfied with a simple dinner of vegetable soup from the crockpot with some bread and cheese? Let’s celebrate every time we take a walk, climb the stairs, park further away in the parking lot instead of beating ourselves up whenever we don’t get to the gym?

I think that appreciating all of the things that we get right everyday should be our resolution for 2018.
